Bucking the Trends

I spent an equally inspirational and exhausting day at Top Drawer this week - London's leading event for design-led gifts, lifestyle & fashion accessories. There were the usual suspects, and a host of new exciting products, soon to be showcased alongside the Day + Molefe ceramics.

What's so weird though is how many people in design-led industries seem so far behind in what's really happening. An exhibitor I was speaking to told me how one buyer leant in and conspiratorially whispered to her that she really thought typography is going to be big next year.

So I laughed out loud when I read Jessica's blog at the Aestate about what American retailers are suggesting as trends in 2013 - Marrakesh Express, American Vintage, Linen Revival and Graphic Modern...aka Chevron.

Haven't seen that around much, have we?!
(Don't get me wrong, I love me a little zig-zag,
but I don't think it's a groundbreaking trend)

Fortunately Jess has put together a list of what she thinks we can expect to start seeing more of. Let's be super clear about a few facts here - I might spend an inordinate amount of time blogging about food, lack of blogging, and flowers - but I promise you, hand on heart, that blogs are where you want to be if you're searching for what's trending. The interwebs is a fantastic insight into what's about to trend - and if you stick with influence(r)s like Jess, then I promise you'll be ahead of the trend next year, and probably well suited for the next few seasons.

So here's the start of Jessica's trend report - keep checking back at the Aestate for more:

Tiger Print - yes please.

Art Deco Glam, which we do quite well in the UK - our best exhibit being Claridges of course:

Anyone fancy cocktails in Claridges perhaps?
All the way through 2013?
