meat-free monday: when calories don't count

Just as my appetite came back after being ill, life turned around and delivered some shocking news.

It kind of has nothing to do with me, but has floored me anyway.
It's just one of those things in life that seems too personal, too freaky, too upsetting and too co-incidental to not have a big fat life lesson attached.

Except the stupid life lesson doesn't come with neatly typed instructions and so maybe it is just 'one of those things'...

...that you couldn't even imagine in your worst case scenarios if you were to sit down and make your own morbid list of 'those things'.

The lump in my throat means I can't face making my own food right now, so I had to go trawling the interwebs for a picture for today's Meatfree Monday post...

Here's a strange thing: in all the bazillions of images on Google, I could only find one decent shot of the best comfort food ever:

Peanut butter and syrup sandwiches.

I'm guessing that no one takes pictures of peanut butter & syrup sandwiches and posts them to Google because if this is what you need to get inside you, you're too desperate for the comfort rush to be messing around with a camera. It's the only thing that makes sense. I'm sure I don't have to type out instructions for bread, butter, peanut butter and maple syrup to you...although I just did. Here's the subtext to today's meat-free Monday/life lesson recipe:

Sometimes, the only way through bad news is to smash 300 000 calories in a sitting.

Thank you to Corbin at ibackpackcanada for his list of 10 Things you need to try with Maple Syrup, (which also included a Canadian Car Bomb - shots of whiskey and maple syrup in beer. I might start with those.)
